Write How You Think

write how you think

the scream
inside your
chest

the no
within your
yes

the height
from which
you fell

the hand that
rang
the bell

the fish
that ate
the whale

the dog
that bites
its tail

the match
left in
the box

the year
you got
the pox

monsters
under your
bed

the demons
that we
fed

the spots
inside your
throat

the curse
you curse
by rote

chalk
scraped on
the board

the cookies
that you
hoard

the time
this day
we’ll spend

friendship
on the
mend

the girl
with frizzy
hair

light
transformed
to glare

the forest
for the
trees

how I
kiss your
knees

the stack
with needles,
hay

the words
I’ve got to
say

you saved
the best
for last

spit and
cleaned
the past

a rhyme
that never
ends

dive and
get the
benz

you shout
until I
scream

we giggle
then we
preen

seeds
tucked under
ground

search the
lost and
found

sometimes
you skate
the rink

sometimes
that’s how
I think
