How You Say It

How You Say It

The Difference Is In How You Say It

The tongue is a world of evil
set on fire by
well, you know
how the story goes

heck, you know how the story
doesn’t go

why we’re here
looking each other
in the eye

taking note of when the other blinks
when the tip of the tongue
touches the back of the lip
moves in the first upward arch
of speech

stops

By now it’s clear
you can say it without sound

say it
with an intake of breath
by folding your arms across your chest

say it
with a slow shake of the head
by running your fingers through your hair

Say it
or don’t say it
we both know, already
what you mean
